SOS Children's Village Khulna was established in the year 1982, situated at Gollamari in Khulna City Corporation. Khulna is a Divisional Headquarter situated at the south-west side of Bangladesh just on the Bank of Bay of Bengal. One third of its area covered by the world heritage mangrove forest "Sundarban" in which world famous Royal Bengal Tiger and spotted deer live.

The SOS Children's Village Khulna established in the year 1982 on the 8:00 acres of land, acquired by the government. This is the third SOS Children's Village in Bangladesh. The formal opening of SOS Children's Village Khulna was done by Prof. Hermann Gmeiner on 06 January 1982. SOS Children's Village Khulna consists of 16 family houses along with ancillary facilities. Children of SOS Children's Village Khulna are studying in different academic stages of schools, colleges, universities and vocational institutions. The objective of the project is to provide long term family based care for the children in need who lost their parental care and at risk. Getting shelter in SOS family, children get motherly love and affection along with playful accompany of brothers and sisters in the same family house.

In the year 1995, SOS Youth House Khulna was established on 0.79 acre of land at Khalishpur, Khulna. This is located in the industrial zone of Khulna town which is only 5 km away from SOS Children's Village. Youth Village is an important component of SOS Children's Village where youngsters take responsibility for their living situation, preparation for their future life and settlement. Boys over 14 years usually move to the youth facility from SOS Children's Village Khulna. They are being brought up in this facility with attending higher education and technical / vocational training.

Youths are encouraged and guided to be involved with personal development programmes to help them to learn life skills and to develop further their personality. Young adult used to get all support and guidance for independent living. Strong educational foundation and training opportunities are identified and provided according to the individual needs.

SOS Youth Village-Cum-Training Centre, Bagerhat started functioning in the year 1996. This project is about 20 Km away from Khulna town. Bagerhat district is situated in the south-western side of Bangladesh just on the Bay of Bengal. SOS Youth Village-Cum-Training Centre Bagerhat has been continuing support, care, help and guidance for boys from SOS Children's Villages Bangladesh specially those who are slow learner. The project has the residential accommodation for the youths and comprehensive agriculture and farm development training facilities including vocational training workshop.

The main aim of the project is to help and guide elder boys of all SOS Children's Villages in Bangladesh in the process of preparing them through technical / vocational training, so that they are in a position to integrate themselves into society as a productive citizen and can live on their own income. Through the training centre, youths of SOS Children's Villages and local unemployed youths from disadvantaged families receive training on raising duck-poultry, dairy, fishery, pisci-culture, agriculture, goat farming, etc. so that the youths can be skilled and financially independent.

SOS Social Centre Khulna is the first Social Centre of SOS Children's Village International in Bangladesh. With the expansion of township a great number of destitute families appeared and there have been a lot of slums grown around the SOS Children's Village Khulna. With a view to provide community need based services to the most needy children and mothers of the neighboring community SOS Children's Villages International took an appropriate step to establish social centre in the premises of SOS Children's Village. SOS Social Centre Khulna has been functioning from January 1987 and this has created an opportunity to provide some basic programmes for the neediest families of the outside community. SOS Social Centre now offers a significant contribution through its programmes in respect of health care, education and socio-economic development of the vulnerable children and mothers of the community.
