Children’s Cricket Tournament held on the occasion of 40 years of SOS Children’s Village International in Bangladesh

SOS Children’s Village International in Bangladesh organized a Children’s Cricket Tournament from 29-31 December at the playground of SOS Children’s Village Dhaka on the occasion of celebration of 40 years (1972-2012) of SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh.

Six teams including five SOS Children’s Village and SOS Hermann Gmeiner College Dhaka participated in the tournament dividing into two groups.Group Champion team of each group took part in the final match. SOS Khulna Tigers became Champion beating SOS Rajshahi Rangers in the final match.

The three day long tournament was started through an opening session on 29 December at 09:30 am. at the playground of SOS Children’s Village Dhaka where the Director General of NGO Affairs bureau Mr. NurunNabi Talukder andformer captain and now selector of Bangladesh Cricket Team KaziHabibul Bashar were present as the Special Guests. Frist day of the tournament had three matches. The opening match was held between SOS Khulna Tigers Vs SOS Chittagong Crackers. The guests enjoyed the match and praise the performance of the players.

The final match was a T20 match held on 31 December at 09.00 am. in the same venue with lots of attention and enthusiasm. Mr. Nazmul Hassan, President, Bangladesh Cricket Board was the Chief Guest in the final match. Bangladesh Cricket Board member Gazi Ashraf Hossain was present as the Special Guest. Another Board member Dr. Ismail HaiderMallik, National Director, Deputy National Director and other officials of SOS Children’s Village International in Bangladesh, each team participate in the tournament and its managers, officials of SOS Children’s Village Dhaka, mothers and children was also present in the session. In his speech, Bangladesh Cricket Board’s President said “In future Bangladesh will find any Sakib, Tamim or Mashrafi among these little Cricketers”. He assured that Bangladesh Cricket Board will continue the relationship with SOS Children’s Village International in Bangladesh providing necessary support for the development of Cricket. He presented two kit’s boxes with equipment for playing cricket. The Special Guest expressed his happiness to see the performance of the youngsters.

The final matchwas the main attraction of tournament. Two finalists were identified after two days of suspension and excitement. The lucky teams were SOS Khulna Tigers and SOS Rajshahi Rangers. SOS Rajshahi Rangers bat first and scored 135 runs in 15 overs for all wickets. SOS Khulna Tigerschased the target easily in 13.4 over for 3 wickets and won the match by 7 wickets. Taiyub Ali of the winner team nominated as Man of the Final for his all-round performance and Saiful Islam of the same team selected as the Player of the Tournament for his tremendous performance through the tournament.

For the tournament the Village was decorated with colourful Balloons, Festoons, Stickers and Banners. All the children’s present give the environment a festive mode. They supported their favourite team with Placard and shouted for them, sang for them and danced for them. The members of the SOS Girls Club Dhaka served as volunteers and helped to finish the tournament nicely.
